The entrance to the spectacular Cherohala Skyway, a National and Scenic byway, visitors can easily escape into this lush backwoods of this area for a wide array of outdoor activities. Take a cable car down from the skyway to Fontana Dam, ranked among the most beautiful dams of the world. Make sure to check out the visitors center at the highest concrete dam east of the Rockies for breathtaking views. Just north of Robbinsville is the town of Lake Santeetlah, a water wonderland of camping, boating and hiking. Surrounded by the Nantahala National Forest and only a short drive to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, this area is worth the quick trip.
